Rollin' In The Rye

Reactions and analysis to players signed on Day 54 of NBA free agency

No players have come on to an agreement in the past 72 hours, but Day 54 of NBA free agency still had its flair.

The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed Brandon Ingram, the 2nd overall pick in the 2016 Draft, and Yi Jianlian. It would of been a surprise if they didn’t do so, especially after coming off their worst season in franchise history with a 17-65 record. Ingram will a be versatile forward for the Lakers to have, and could possibly become the franchise player next to D’Angelo Russell. This signing could also of been looked at as a present to Kobe Bryant, who celebrated his 38th birthday on Day 54.

Other news in the Western Conference included the Portland Trail Blazers, with Festus Ezeli scheduled to now miss 6 weeks after a knee injection. The Blazers have depth at the centre position, but this still isn’t pleasant news for them after just signing the former Golden State Warrior to a 2-year/$15 million contract this summer.

On the other side of the league, and border, the Toronto Raptors announced some alternate jerseys. They’ll have a set uniform for Chinese New Years and also a new Huskies jersey, to pay respect to the 70th anniversary of Canada’s 1st professional basketball team.
