Rollin' In The Rye

Tim Hardaway Jr. throws down a wicked baseline dunk against the Suns

Tim Hardaway Jr. tried to bring some life to his Atlanta Hawks by making a terrific play during Wednesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns.

In the 4th quarter, the Hawks were looking for an answer against the Suns; who owned a 79-77 lead with 10:05 remaining. Hardaway Jr. would use a Mike Muscala screen to get away from Dragan Bender in the corner, awaiting the ball from one of his teammates. After receiving a quick pass from Malcolm Delaney, Hardaway Jr. would blow past Bender for a nasty reverse baseline dunk to tie the game at 79. The play would get a mixed reaction from the Suns’ home crowd, but a very positive reaction from a pumped up Hawks bench.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, Hardway Jr.’s dunk wouldn’t be enough – with the Suns’ bench prevailing on Wednesday night to guide their squad to a close 109-107 victory.

Hardaway Jr. had a great game off of the bench for his team, finishing with 21 points on 9-17 FG, to go along with 3 assists, a single steal, and a rebound through 26 minutes of action. With his improved work ethic, he’s having a career-year this season – averaging 11.1 points on 47 FG%, to go along with 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists a game. He’s been one of the few bright spots during Atlanta’s 4-game losing streak, and it’s only a matter of time before he starts to get a bigger role.

The 24-year-old will look to dig his Hawks out of their losing slump on Friday night, when his team takes on the Detroit Pistons with tipoff scheduled at 8:00 p.m. EST.
